What are your career goals?
I am not sure yet. I could see myself going from residency to community practice, but I could also see myself going into either critical care or EMS fellowship. I hope to get enough exposure over the next three years to make that decision.
What did you do the summer before internship?
The summer before intern year was very eventful. My wife and I got married, we got a dog, and I took several trips.
What do you like to do outside of medicine?
I like to be really active and do anything outside. My first love was Rock
Reflections on the Pitt EM Program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I wanted to go to a program that would give me very high-quality training along with very down-to-earth attendings and residents. I also wanted a 3-year program in a large city with a diverse patient population.
What are the strengths of the Pitt EM program?
Pitt EM is well known for producing very confident and competent ED Docs.
What has surprised you most about Pitt?
The thing that has surprised me most about UPMC so far is how laid back the residents and faculty seem to be. Pitt is a prestigious program but no one takes themselves too seriously.

What do you like best about living in Pittsburgh/Western PA?
The people in Pittsburgh are super nice. I also appreciate the cool summers.
Where did you choose to live, and why?
I chose to live in Squirrel Hill. It is a slower pace than some of the other boroughs. Squirrel Hill also has quick access to parks and you can find houses with a yard if you have animals.
What advice would you give to incoming residents about moving to the 'Burgh?
Look for housing early. Don't hesitate to reach out for advice on where to live. Everyone has a different and strong opinion on what neighborhood is the best. Try to find a location where you don't have to cross a bridge or go through a tunnel to get to work.
