What are your career goals?
I am interested in pursuing a fellowship after completing residency. Not certain which fellowship yet, as there are quite a few EM fellowships that interest me. In terms of community vs. academic medicine, I have yet to make up my mind. Thankfully, I have some time to really figure out where I want to take my career.
What did you do the summer before internship?
I spent a lot of time with my friends in Philly. I didn't go on any serious vacation but took a few trips around visiting friends and family.
What do you like to do outside of medicine?
I like going on hikes, mountain biking (I'm pretty horrible at it, but it's a ton of fun), powerlifting, playing video games and watching a ton of Netflix.
Reflections on the Pitt EM Program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program that would provide me with a diverse experience in all aspects of emergency medicine, great training, and most importantly a group of people that I loved working with!
What are the strengths of the Pitt EM program?
The Pitt EM program provides an incredibly diverse experience. You get to rotate through many different sites, and each site provides unique patient populations with unique medical complaints. You also get to work alongside some fantastic people that love teaching and truly create a great working and learning environment!
What has surprised you most about Pitt?The wide scope of patient's and medical problems you get to see. UPMC is a massive academic program with every specialty you could imagine. With this you get to see a lot of things you wouldn't see elsewhere. You also get to interact with and learn from everyone!
About Pitt EM and Pittsburgh
What do you like best about living in Pittsburgh/Western PA?
I love the neighborhoods! From Shadyside to the strip district, Pittsburgh really is a city of neighborhoods, and each one comes with its own unique atmosphere and experiences.
Where did you choose to live, and why?
I chose to live in North Oakland. The location was ideal in terms of distance to all of the hospitals we work at. It's also right next to Shadyside, which is one of my favorite areas in Pittsburgh.
What advice would you give to incoming residents about moving to the 'Burgh?
Even though Pittsburgh is a small city, it provides all the amenities of a big city. There's a ton to do and people here are incredibly friendly! Also housing prices are on the lower end for any city and the traffic rarely gets too bad. Pittsburgh really is a great place to live, and you should definitely come visit and get a feel for it!
